New dance competitions in Australia: December 2025 update

If you’re ready to start planning for 2026, you’re in luck — Stage Lark has just made it easier than ever to navigate the dance comp calendar. Our calendar now features over 200 competitions, auditions, and workshops, covering everything from local eisteddfods to major national tours.

We follow more than 100 event organisers nationwide, and more organisers outside our curated list are starting to add their events too. Don’t see your favourite organiser? Encourage them to submit their event — creating an account takes less than 10 minutes and it’s completely free.

So what’s new this month? Even in this quieter season, organisers have been busy releasing dates. We’ve added over 70 new events this month, mostly from the major national tours. Check out some of the recently announced events below, and start your search here.

What’s on in December 2025

While it’s a quieter time of year — and for most, a chance to hang up the dance shoes and focus on the festivities — a few of our favourite comps are keeping things buzzing right up to the end of the year. Talent Tribe, Industry Connect, and Royale Performing Arts Challenge are holding down the dance scene all the way through to year’s end, while the Queensland Ballet Academy’s Junior Summer Program kicks off on 17 December.

You can find them by searching here and applying the date filter. Please check TCs and other event specifics directly with the event organiser – their contact information is provided on each page:

  • Queensland Ballet Academy – 2025 Junior Summer Program
  • Talent Tribe – December 2025, Gold Coast
  • Industry Connect Championship – December 2025, Melbourne
  • Royale Performing Arts Challenge – December 2025, Sydney

Summer intensives

There are several summer intensives now live on the platform for NSW, QLD, VIC, and SA. You can find them here by selecting Workshop from the filter. Check them out before registrations close!

For dancers at the pre-professional / professional level, there’s a unique opportunity to be seen by several artistic directors from international companies in Brisbane this January. Auditions will be held for year-round academy programs, pre-professional trainee positions, summer intensives, apprentice contracts, and company positions. The event includes ballet intensives with directors from Houston Ballet, Royal New Zealand Ballet, Ballet de Monterrey, Ballet de Barcelona, Joffrey Ballet School, and Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre. Check out this listing to find out more.

Registrations closing soon

For most 2026 events you’ve got a bit of breathing space — many of the closing dates aren’t until the new year. But don’t miss your chance to secure a spot by leaving it too late. A few registration deadlines are coming up over the next month, including the ones listed below.

When you’re planning your bookings, remember that Stage Lark lets you sort events by their registration closing date. While not all events publish their deadlines, this feature makes it easy to prioritise the ones that do.

Registration deadlines coming up soon:

  • Everybody Sing and Dance Now, Engadine, NSW
  • Australian Classical Challenge, 2026 in Newcastle, NSW
  • On Stage Performing Arts Competitions – Summer Edition 2026 in Beldon, WA
